Sitting down with Cat Flood for the March 2024 issue gave us all the answers we have been looking for- and more.
Womanhood looks a lot like understanding how to make decisions less complicated and more heartfelt, being on the hunt for a potential professional presence in an “underfunded, under-supported” game of volleyball, adding value to relationships, zoning in on short-term goals to shape the long-term, and leaning into personal style for our cover star of the month.
These are all the cards we are dealt, and get to play with.
Editor-in-Chief, Hannah Beil, first recognized Flood’s go-with-the-flow nature. She found it mesmerizing and ordered the interview accordingly by asking just how she makes decision-making look so nonchalant.
As for her personal career and the future, she has “tossed around the idea” of playing on a professional court. However, there are some setbacks when it comes to the volleyball industry quality and operations.
Part of Flood’s gravitational pull as a player is obviously her all-or-nothing style, but also her exploration with her physical appearance- hair wise.
She explains how her current hair came to life, “I had a teammate, Serena Gray, that was helping me decide what I was going to do with it, post undercut blonde phase. She sent me the split; and I just sent it. I have had it since August of 2022, and I do not see myself changing it anytime in the near future.”
Styling this issue that was shot on one of the coldest days of our Winter was an interesting task for Beil, who worked with Flood.
Flood gave us some last few words, “I had a great time. Hannah is the best. I like direction and being told what to do and how to do it and it was so fun to be a little puppet. We damn near froze outside but I have no doubts in my mind that it is worth it. I like being behind the camera a lot, and being the photographer, but I felt so confident with Hannah working her magic.”
