Basketball players who grew up with only the National Basketball Association on their minds playing for their middle and high schools and colleges are now officially on their way to the big leagues; many of them made it a point to thank their families, coaches, and universities who kept them grounded and reminded them of their destiny along the way.
For Scoot Henderson, he wrote his thank you’s within his embellished black suit. Placing his siblings’ and parents’ birth stones within the jewels on the suit, on his necklace, and in his grill, he felt their love all night long. Designed by Mix of Luxe, a company owned by his sister, China Henderson-Peters, he set himself apart from the rest with the illusion of colorful jewels and pearls. For his six siblings and him, he wore an H7 Pendant and had the number braided into his hair.
Gradey Dick made sure his Kansas-roots remained a piece of him as he gets ready to fly into Toronto to play for the Raptors. “Dorothy has her little slippers, I got my Dorothy suit,” he added into the description of his look for the night; including, Louboutin red-bottom shoes. Somehow, he coordinated the color perfectly for his future team too!
A French man cannot neglect his Louis Vuitton, so Victor Wembanyama opted for a muted-green suit designed by the luxury brand. Editorial style for “Wemby” aligned with his out-of-this-world talent. Featuring a tie on the posterior side of the suit and a looser fit to resemble a kimono, the 7’2” basketball player could not be missed. “It’s not a precious stone, it’s not an expensive stone, but it’s beautiful,” the fresh San Antonio Spurs player allured the eyes to his simple pendant. Both the piece around his neck and the color of his suit reminded him of outer-space, and elevated this athlete’s creativity.
After paying too much attention to the effort put into the looks of the night, we had to of course highlight historical events of the night for the NBA and twins, Amen and Ausar Thompson.
Lasting fifty years, the NBA only had one set of twins drafted back-to-back: Marcus and Markieff Morris. The brothers made history in 2011, and now these twenty-year-old identical twins are setting another milestone in 2023 as Amen goes to Rockets at No. 4 and Pistons take Ausar at No. 5.
Sports are becoming more and more well-versed in the fashion world. Stretching from Michael Jordan’s shoe line with Nike, “The Air Jordan”, to present time work between name brands such as Louis Vuitton with Victor Wembanyama, Olympic medalist, Allyson Felix, with Fendi, and English footballer, Marcus Rashford, with Burberry– just a percentage of the pool of athletes of are entering into the doors of clothing lines and partnerships.
