“The end of an era,” British Vogue begins with in their farewell letter to long-time editor and stylist, Edward Enninful.
Also an editor for W Magazine (2011-17), his “fantastical fashion and edgy editorials” brought him to his now late role as the editor of British Vogue– a continuation of similar industry-shaping work.
Deservingly so, he has also brought home the Isabella Blow Award for “Outstanding Creativity in Fashion”; in 2017, he was awarded the OBE for his services to diversity in British fashion; in 2018, he received the Media Award from CFDA in honor of his career-long contribution starting at just 18-years-old (when he took home a title of being the youngest editor at a major international fashion company at i-D).
Being one of the world’s most in-demand stylists, he could easily ring 40 of the most requested women figures to be a part of his departing March issue and they would answer.
Adwoa Aboah, Adut Akech, Simone Ashley, Victoria Beckham, Selma Blair, Naomi Campbell, Vittoria Ceretti, Gemma Chan, Jodie M Comer, Laverne Cox, Cindy Crawford, Miley Cyrus, Ariana DeBose, Cara Delevingne, Jourdan Dunn, Paloma Elsesser, Karen Elson, Cynthia Erivo, Linda Evangelista, Jane Fonda, Kaia Gerber, Gigi Hadid, Salma Hayek, Iman, Maya Jama, Jameela Jamil, Karlie Kloss, Precious Lee, Dua Lipa, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kate Moss, Lila Moss, Rina Sawayama, Irina Shayk, Anya Taylor-Joy, Christy Turlington, Amber Valletta, Serena Williams, Oprah, Anok Yai.
These women were either preparing for the Grammy’s during this production, traveling for other jobs, acting, speaking, making more music, all that they do, but for “E.E.”, they would drop everything to commemorate six and a half years with 153 cover stars for British Vogue.
Enninful has described his vision for British Vogue as “about being inclusive. It’s not just the colour of your skin but the diversity of perspective.”
76 covers calls for a grand exit, and he made it happen to say the least.
“Everywhere you look, you are taken down a nostalgic lane,” Hannah Beil writes from Editor to Editor.
A few other historical covers decorated with “provocative elegance and strong narrative” include:
The question really still remains, “Who else can get 40 of the greatest talents from fashion, Hollywood and beyond in one room for a show of unity but Edward?”.
Edward Enninful is surely added to our dream realm.
Chioma Nnadi will make a triumphant beginning as the newest proclaimed head of British Vogue.
With an already stacked experience behind her from Rihanna’s first pregnancy cover to Cara Delevingne’s “fresh start” issue, there is a strong sense of hope for the future E.E. paved.
