The Announcement Of The Year For Fashion

With the gap year in 2020 for the “Met Gala”, celebrities are unable to contain excitement for the event occurring this year. Without much detail as to who will attend, what the theme will be, and the exact date, those who are invited are already anxiously planning. Not many exclusive hints have been discussed yet, but there are many celebrities that are qualified candidates. Pressure to depict the theme in a unique manner is all too real for the guests.

The event used to go by the “Costume Institute Gala” or “Costume Institute Benefit”. As the night holds the most consumed names in households around the world, funds are raised for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. New York City is the hub for fashion; so, rightfully, the museum resides in the heart of the city.

Ever wonder how you can land a spot at the same table as Beyonce or Rihanna or Emma Roberts? Being dressed by the same designer is the answer to your day dreams. One table may hold all of those decked in Donatella Versace and the neighboring table may be in Manfred Thierry Mugler.

Classic looks include: Rihanna in a yellow gown with a train that draped multiple layers of stairs behind her, Cher in an opaque body suit lined with feathers by Bob Mackie, and Naomi Campbell in a perfectly-constructed, busy mini dress by Versace.

Past themes include: “China: Through the Looking Glass” (2015),

“Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” (2016),

“Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between” (2017),

“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” (2018), and “Camp: Notes on Fashion” (2019), “About Time: Fashion and Duration” (2020).

Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief at Vogue, personally invites her guests to the fundraiser, but the chances of receiving such an honor is limited. Seven hundred survive the cut, a general rule of thumb since Wintour and the Vogue team took over in 1995. An additional way into the event, which may not be as glamorous, but working at Vogue increases your chance. From photographers to journalists to public speakers, the function requires it all to remain prestigious.

There is a minor catch to the return of The Met; it will not be held on the first Monday of May!
