Serena Williams is a 40-year old powerhouse and a 27-year commit to her craft of professional tennis.
On Tuesday, August 30, she outdid her opponent, Danka Kovinic, in the US Open.
The experienced player spoke out about her delayed retirement, and announced, “I’m still here for the time being, just enjoying it.”
Does that mean we get to see more of Williams and have our jaw drop to the ground again and again and again? Well, we are not sure. Not even she seems to be sure.
Before the tournament, she told the public that “the US Open would very likely be my last tournament.”
Who could imagine a world of tennis without Serena Williams? Not us, that is for sure!
But! We cannot fret as we have her very own bloodline, Venus Williams, who proves to embody similar power as her older sister. Tomorrow night at 7:00 PM EST, the Williams sisters will battle Linda Nosková and Lucie Hradecká, both from Czech Republic.
Venus is set to continue the legacy of the family, but NYC needed to give Serena one last farewell in regards to the sports industry. In the city’s typical fashion, the celebration of a record career lasted far into the night to show Williams every last bit of love and support before her final match.
When the day came, the emotions were roaring in not only her, but the crowd as well.
Six single titles at Flushing Meadows could never be forgotten, and will continue to be mentioned in tennis- in all levels. At the US Open, coordinators had Queen Latifah voice over a montage of the wins to take one more trip down memory lane.
As soon as the montage ended, chills sent down the spines of all attendees, and eyes were locked on the gate where Williams would walk through.
The professional simply wins every time.
Decked in diamonds and deubrés, Serena Williams played her heart out in her very own Nike designed bodice and tutu skirt.
For her unofficial last time playing tennis, Williams took home the win against Kovinic.
