As we all know, the last episode of Star Wars hit the screens worldwide, and brought about many emotions we were not ready for as long time fans of not only the story George Lucas wrote and produced several times, but his eye for fashion as well.
Setting the movies in deserted planets, the characters had to be prepared for wind gusts and cold weather. They also needed to prepare to meet their enemies in style- maybe intimidate them slightly!
Olivier Rousteing, a French fashion designer and creative director of Balmain since 2011, could not part from the series that transformed the film industry- and its’ costume and technology use specifically. This was the first time science fiction had a hold on movie-watchers, for most stuck to the class dramas being made in the seventies.
Princess Leia, played by Carrie Fisher, orchestrated the direction for Balmain’s Fall 2020 collection with her common link to the color white, flowing gowns, cinched waists, and belts galore. She even had the people drooling after her bikini scene in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983). The copper plate and wire spoke for itself as she emulated the motif of a Princess and her rich aura; leather and silk included.
Backed by neutral concrete flooring and walls- Rousteing made sure to include an element that symbolized the quintessential lightsaber with red and orange accent lighting behind the crevices of the walls- the storm of models looked ready to meet Darth Vader face to face.
