“Anyone But You” Revived Rom-Com’s

Could it be the chemistry between the main actress, Sydney Sweeney, and actor, Glen Powell, or could it be the rom-com hiatus that satisfied our craving?

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Proposal, Love Actually– these are all films that ignited the craze for a movie that writes in both terms of admiration and humor. But we have not seen any come about since then.

In theaters, Anyone But You, gives the kiss of life to the complications of love.

Will Gluck delivered a beautifully messy and creative direction as we see on the screen. Derived from Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, the initial attraction of two people turns into a spiraling disaster that affects their loved ones. By fate, they wind up trying to solve their personal issues to resolve the rest of the world around them on the most important day of Bea’s sister’s life- her wedding.

Instead of being all fairytale-like, the plot follows a brutal honesty approach. That just may be the secret ingredient to all rom-coms. We all like relatable content, something we can understand and feel less alone on.

Whoever paired Sweeney and Powell together knew exactly what they were doing when they were doing it.

The Euphoria actress cleared the air: “The chemistry was instant.” On his side, she was “the easiest person to have chemistry with”.

For a movie to hold the attention of viewers nowadays, the cast matters immensely. Respected actors who are intentional with their craft tend to win over the crowd over the years. Timothee Chalamet, Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Aniston, the icons are far and few depending on their chosen roles.

We could not imagine anyone else as Rocky other than Sylvester Stallone. Right?

There are just certain personalities and certain talents for characters of the fictional and nonfictional world.

“One of the most charming movies in years,” critics avow.

The movie even celebrated Sara Baralleis’ hit single, Unwritten, and put it back into pop culture where it belongs. The song provided moments of giggles and goosebumps from the attendees.

We are on our knees for more rom-coms in the upcoming years from the movie industry. No one can deny them and their universal meanings.
