“He was so excited,” Sofia Richie Grainge retells the story of how the model and music executive, Elliot Grainge, found out they were about to be parents in nine months.
What was supposed to be a “boozy night” turned into a CVS run for three pregnancy tests.
Seeing all three with a positive sign after consecutive negative results in the past, Richie Grainge’s natural reaction was to protect her new reality- even with friends.
While we all thought she was enjoying her time off post-holiday season, she was busy making the most gorgeous girl from scratch.

The first person to know there is a sweet baby girl coming was Becca, the model’s assistant.
“We had our OB text my assistant Becca [our baby’s gender], and we bought two party poppers: one blue, one pink. She left out the one with the correct color inside, and Elliot and I popped it together. We both really thought it was a boy, so it was a true shock. My dream in life is to have a daughter [though], and Elliot is really excited for a girl too. I think it’s so typical for boys to want boys, but he has a lot of sisters. It was really sweet. He’s very sensitive.”
As for the parents, they took a bit of a humorous approach: “We went to Elliot’s parents, who live about five minutes away from us, and I think I had a box—I want to say it was a Hermès box or some sort of box—and I told everyone that I had bought them a gift from Milan Fashion Week,” Richie Grainge remembers. “Everyone was like ‘Ooooh Hermes!’ But then they opened it and it had all three of the pregnancy tests [in it]. That’s how we told all of our parents. Watching their reaction go from like, ‘I’m about to get an expensive present’ to like ‘I’m about to get a grandchild’ was really sweet.”
There are many fascinating parts of pregnancy including the shifts in the female body and mind. The momma-to-be speaks of her awareness with an evolving body just casually producing an entire human. “Every week brings new things, whether it’s hormonal shifts or expansion—there’s just so much our bodies go through, and it’s so interesting to experience it all.”
Known for an “it-girl” style, that will certainly be back on the table following the late announcement. Hiatus’ are sometimes a necessity, but now she will be rocking her closet again- just with a precious round belly.
“I’m about to have some fun with it now that I can spread my wings and fly,” she says all giddy. Maternity-wear is not an avenue she sees fit for her personal style. Her trick for pregnancy is to find a few of your favorite new pants and size up in those! Other than that, let your bump out and about.
Lots of planning is going down: pregnancy looks, a fantasy-like nursery, a house renovation in progress, baby shower, baby moon, and how to raise a “smart, kind person”.
“I can’t wait to open that door back up,” she manifests with her followers who love her for her “best-friend energy” as she makes it back on her platform.
All she wants the people who wish to listen to her advice is to find comfort in the community around you- “it is all normal”.
