An ode to Native Americans and African cowboys, Pharrell Williams put his artistic mind to work to create a drop for Men’s Fall-Winter 2024. Subtly dropping hints on random Instagram accounts, he posted a suede Stetson hat and sketches of ranch workers by Ron Husband, an American animator.
Guesses were confirmed as more than 1,200 guests- including Bradley Cooper, Carey Mulligan, and Lil Yachty- graced the streets of Paris in their own take on Western style.
The venue resembled that of a pop-up box, right next to the Jardin d’Acclimatation, with a burnt sand catwalk and a dessert display behind it all on a big screen.
Classic Western met honky tonk in this curation of denim, cowboy hats, suede, and thick belts.
Fashion and costume historian, Shelby Ivey Christie, broke down the nuances: “It’s not just a fashion statement; it’s a cultural affirmation that emphasizes the diverse and multifaceted nature of black experiences.”
The creative director (and musician) sourced from authentic Native American artists who focused on incorporating motifs throughout blankets and handbags.
Tracks to walk to were designed to appreciate the co-composition between Williams and Lakota Clairmont; Mumford and Sons also played.
Fitting into the theme, Pharrell wore a white tee labeled ‘Human Made’, true denim jeans, a studded brown belt with “LV” decorative hardware, and to top it off, a snow-white country hat as all attention was on him.
“If you are going to spend your disposable income in a time like this it needs to be on something that is actually going to last,” Williams put to emphasize the practicality of the button-ups, denim jeans, and worker boots.
