The 150th Kentucky Derby

Let the races begin, and the stars roll in!

Louisville, Kentucky is home to the prestigious Kentucky Derby event known for money-making and signature wide-brim hats and plaid suits.

Signing a two-year extension with the Kansas City Chiefs for $34.25 million, Travis Kelce was in good spirits during his time in Churchill Downs with Kansas City Chiefs running back, Isiah Pacheco.

Kelce showed his excitement for the culture of racing while sporting a vintage black and white striped suit. His navy blue hat featured a baby blue feather accessory. As for his tie, he went for an eclectic match with circular prints on the navy blue piece of fabric.

More football stars popped out like Pro Football Hall of Fame running back, Emmitt Smith, who played for the Dallas Cowboys.

Kyle Rudoloph, Will Levis, and Amon-Ra St. Brown also came for the experience.

St. Brown, Detroit Lions wide receiver, gave his honest expectations that he “does not know what to expect” but he is “here to have a good time”.

Aside from the athletic population, we saw country stars, television hosts, entertainers, singers, all of the above.

Sheryl Lee Ralph, Martha Stewart, and Wynonna Judd were the woman of the weekend (and every).

The gates of Churchill Downs openly invite spectators to not only watch a horse race, but witness impeccable sportsmanship and feel the timeless Southern charm woven into the tradition.

Not much has changed about the logistics of The Derby since its inception in 1875; thrilling horse races and elegant traditions.

If you see someone drinking at the event, they are most likely taking part in the withstanding staple of a cocktail known as the “Mint Julep”. Concocted with Bourbon, the drink strikes as a symbol of Southern Charm.

More symbols like the actual trophy itself, for the winner of the designated race, refer to excellence and achievement. Horses are trained their entire lifetime for this moment, and so are their human companions. It is a sign of accomplishment for owners, trainers, and jockeys alike.

Hats that match a woman’s dress and a man in a suit or bright blazer emphasize the pageantry-esque style.
