At just twenty years old, Hannah Chavez, started selling merchandise and tote bags all when she took time to sit down and experiment. A lockdown later, the artist discovered a hidden passion that has led to healthy commissions and interactions with others from both the Philippines and United States of America. With a growing following on Instagram, her two accounts @pointworkbyhannah and @pointwork.apparel produce an array of options to admire. Posted images are an outlet to receive a deeper understanding of the work. Her first account, filled with solely her stippling drawings, displays a behind the scenes for what appears on her products. Without any hesitation, UP editor could not help but scroll through each picture and become infatuated with each and every single dot that the drawing is composed of. Hannah is a woman of pure talent whether it pertains to the productions itself or the operations of her business, she is a leading force for young artists of all kinds.
“I decided to draw an Avatar: The Last Airbender piece and posted it to one of the ATLA group pages on Facebook. It blew up! Garnering circa 2,500 likes, people started to inquire about purchases of such prints, maybe even t-shirts as well.” Hannah Chavez recognized the unexpected success and continued, “That soon sparked something in me and made me realize that I had the potential to start something big.” Social media ultimately stimulated a sense of urgency to continue her practices in a business-like manner. Shortly into the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, she released the drawing into the realm of Facebook and the rest is history. Inclined in the art fields since a young child, Chaves knew that the quietness of the pandemic gave her an escape to retrieve her creative roots. Eventually, the artist sold her first art commission for Manong, her earliest customer. A stippling portrait of an iconic image of Kobe Bryant during a basketball game in his Lakers jersey. She writes in her Instagram caption for the announcement post, “This is my first art commission! The tattoo was probably the most difficult part to draw, but I’m happy I was able to pull it off!” Detailed is quite frankly not a sufficient word to describe the accuracy and thoughtfulness the drawing radiates. Following that initial sale, Hannah Chavez started receiving a generous amount of requests.
Most would agree that the art of stippling may be the most time consuming fashion there is as of now. Thousands of dots generate the final finish as one must take into consideration the highlights and shadows of their desired inspiration. Overall, the dots follow a pattern that stretches out of the course of the paper. A quick press with the tip of a slim ink pen is the simplest way to word such an undertaking. Unless strategically done, the drawing is typically completed with a single hue, many times the standard is a black hue. Chavez aided UP editors understanding as she explains it herself, “Stippling is an art technique where you create a composition using only dots. Sometimes for me it takes up to eighteen hours to finish an entire piece (I use a 0.005 micron pen).” Eighteen hours makes up around three solid days if one is efficient with time and follows their normal sleeping schedule. An elaborate protocol like stippling makes for a sense of accomplishment once an artist finishes.
Since April Hannah Chavez agrees her drawings are evolving into more cleaner and intricate pieces. Ever since her apparel advanced in popularity, she inched closer and closer to over one hundred purchases in both the Philippines and the United States. Her store is accessible world-wide for those who reach her site. In just a period of time she managed to reach outside of her native country, imagine the growth in a few years. The official Instagram pages continue to grow with time and exhibit an ensemble of thirty-four of her creations. She has comforted many with her raw abilities to connect with her customers through personal ventures as she honors their requests. Chavez alters any obstacles that both stippling and business impart.
