Before cover star, Kate McKay, takes on her big move to Montana, Hannah Beil had to have her on an issue after being a witness to her honest platform on Instagram. “She is like a big sister to everyone who taps on her name, that is how quickly I felt a connection with her hypnotic genuinity,” the Editor-in-Chief can confidently say after meeting the mutual for the photoshoot of a lifetime.
Going over how being bored is not necessarily as bad of a feeling as everyone makes it out to be, “it actually helps you recover from the BS we go through on a daily basis”. That could also be the underlying motive for her fantasy life; one where she is locked away spiritually on a farm with only her partner and their children, raising farm animals and dogs and cats, eating everything they produce, and caring for the rural population around her using her healthcare education. The conversation pursues much further into parts of McKay’s brain that she herself may have not yet explored.
In-and-out of the pool and running all around a local building called for a rounded scoop of confidence of which seemed relatively easy for the model of the month.
How can we all grow a bit of that same modelesque confidence is the question we had to ask McKay. She responded, “One thing that’s helped me is having a physical photo of young me around, either in my bathroom mirror or as the background on my phone. I talk to myself the way I’d talk to her. She’s growing the same way I am, she’s experiencing life for the first time too. Give yourself some slack and forgiveness, maybe you’ll feel more confident in letting yourself be as you are.”
While that tip may be useful she admits it is not always fair… “Sometimes confidence can be really limiting, both the absence and presence of it. Feeling fully confident all the time isn’t realistic. You aren’t always going to feel good, but leaning into that feeling can reveal ways to accept yourself and grow from it.”
Moving across the country, to an area bare of familiar faces, and full of many, many potential friends is where this confidence of hers comes into play. In order to make change happen in your life, the “terrifying and ecstatic” decisions are the stimuli to it all. Being vulnerable allows love and change to do the unexpected for you, while you sit back and remind yourself you cannot control one single thing besides how you react.
Montana, a hot spot for an escape to the natural world, is where the Yellowstone National Park spreads out on and rocky mountains stand tall amongst the very country buildings- it is country as country gets out there. The cover star finds herself craving that environment at this point in her life and here on out for the sake of “growing old surrounded by everything I love that loves me back”.
Anne Hathaway, an actress who does it all from Devil Wears Prada to Intern to The Princess Diaries, sits high on everyone’s beloved list, we rest assured.
“I am obsessed with her, Queen of Genovia, and everything she does. Her Versace look was the perfect balance of uniqueness while still paying homage to Lagerfeld with the tweed fabric. I’m all for the Chanel Pink and anything Lily Rose Depp wears, so her dress from the January Haute Couture, 2017 show is right up my alley.”
Just as Hathaway felt before stepping onto the biggest carpet of the year, our own model voices that she “felt waves of confidence and fear throughout the day.” It is that voice inside your head that determines how beautiful you truly are, it will always tell you otherwise; she equates it to a “gamble”.
